SSES has introduced Smokeless stoves designed by GEO Organisation, Hyderabad in the Tribal villages of Yerragondapalem, Pullalacheruvu, Dornala mandals as part of Women Awareness program under Tribal Development Fund program. We have initially taken 15 stoves and tested in different villages for its efficiency. These stoves are found to save around 35 to 45 % of wood and emitting very low smoke when compared to conventional Open Fire cooking (on three stones). We have distributed 450 stoves in different villages of Pullalacheruvu, Dornala and Yerragondapalem mandals and the women beneficiaries are very happy with the performance of these stoves as their cooking has become more comfortable, with less efforts of collection of firewood, reducing drudgery of these women to a great extent. Each stove is able to save a minimum of 1 kg wood per day, saving an eight year old tree per month, which will help in reducing deforestation.
We are starting a campaign for promotion of these stoves to reach maximum users, both tribal and non tribal in the area. We are also planning to promote Institutional cook stoves suitable for hotels, hostels, dhabas with a very high wood savings efficiency.
